Olivetti Elea 9003 / 1959
The Olivetti Elea 9003 console from 1959, the first commercial Italian transistor computer. One of two machines left in existence, its famed designer and architect, Ettore Sottsass (most notable for his later formation of the Memphis group) stated:⠀“When I was young, all we ever heard about was functionalism, functionalism, functionalism. It’s not enough. Design should also be sensual and exciting.”
