Xerox Alto / 1973
Often referred to as the ‘first personal computer’, the Alto was the first computer to implement the use of the now-everyday, mouse-driven Graphical User Interface (GUI), which Steve Jobs famously ‘borrowed’ with great success at Apple. The Alto was never commercially marketed and Xerox seemingly failed to capitalise on the potential of what it had created: the first truly user-friendly personal computer of its era.
